There have been a lot of changes in healthcare over the years. Traditionally, the healthcare system in the United States has been focused on caring for the sick and treating and preventing diseases. But a new standard has developed. Focus has now shifted to health promotion. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines health promotion as the ââ¬Å"process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve, their health. It moves beyond a focus on individual behavior towards a wide range of social and environmental interventions.â⬠Health promotion focuses on changes to a community as well as an individuals health by modifying their behaviors to strive for optimal health, which The American Journal of Health Promotion defines as beingâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦There are three levels of health promotion prevention. The first level of prevention is primary prevention. The main purpose is for individuals take a proactive approach through health promotion to decrease the risk of obtaining a disease before it occurs. The focus is on making individuals, families and communities aware of health related issues. An example would be an educational program with school-aged children. The program would be based on the effects of smoking, facts and m yths about smoking, smokeless tobacco use, costs of smoking, advertising awareness, smoke free environment and advocacy (Tingen, Andrews Stevenson, 2009). Nurses with evidenced based practice to inform children, as well as their parents, of the effects of smoking, conducted these programs and studies. Secondary level of health promotion is when an individual moves away from unhealthy behavior and the disease or behavior is identified before symptoms occur. Screenings and diagnostic tests are used to help identify health problems and information is provided on transformations that can be made to help reduce the risk of chronic health problems. An example of this would be aimed at helping individuals who smoke tobacco with successful cessation. Through Close Analysis of a Single Poem, Discuss the Ways Which Harrison Explores the Theme of Education and Its Impact on His Life By Lockhart Through close analysis of a single poem, discuss the ways which Harrison explores the theme of education and its impact on his life Education is a key theme within Harridans poetry as the impact it had upon his own life was fundamental to making him the person and poet he is today. This was mainly due to the fact he attended a middle class grammar school, the culture of which clashed dramatically with the working class environment he was brought up in. Many of Harridans poems express a reluctance to overlook his roots and a rebellious urge to beat the system. However, they also recognize that in order to succeed in any literary career, he must succumb to the middle class way. This duality affected all aspects of his life and inevitably distanced him from his family and friends in many ways, radically changing him as a person. In his poem Them and Lug] I ; II Harrison discusses his sense of cultural otherness at his grammar school and how he aimed to defy them to stay true to his identity. The fact that the poem is a stretched sonnet immediately conveys how he wanted to do things his own way, even if it meant breaking the rules. One way Harrison explores how education impacted upon his life in this work is through the theme of conformity. The poem expresses Harridans reluctance to conform to middle class social principles, yet also the necessity. This pressure is articulated primarily through the voice of his grammar school teacher. Poetry is the speech of kings and We say [ z] not Lug] shows that the teacher strongly associates poetry and literature tit Received Pronunciation (RPR) and the middle/upper classes and does not approve of Harridans inferior background. In addition to the necessity to conform, Harrison refers also to the sacrifices he made throughout his childhood because of his education. This could simply mean he doesnt want to change himself and he does so bitterly. However, it also alludes to the idea he is a better person and poet without a forced identity, also shown in his poem The Queens English. The line Wassails they puttee rods ret I his mouth emphasizes the idea that education conditioned him to be someone he neither was nor aspired to be. The use of the pun shut my trap in Them and Lug] supports this, suggesting that conformity will be a trap for his poetry, as well as him having to keep quiet and change his cultural orientation. Through doing this Harrison is effectively agreeing to the new middle class customs, which is inevitably going to have a huge impact on his life. This impact is reflected in the poem A Good Read where Harrison talks about how education affected his legislation with his Father. Contrary to his fathers working class traditions, Harrison became a passionate and interested academic; they both inhabited different worlds. A Good Read emphasizes this in the difference in dialogue, namely the fathers obvious Leeds accent, which is not at all mirrored by Harrison himself in the poem. Furthermore, the rhyme scheme in Them and Lug] part l is regular paired rhyme to reflect order, conversely in this stanza the rhyme scheme is full of half rhymes an act of rebellion. Nevertheless, the end of the poem suggests these efforts may have been in vain, specifically through the way his first mention in the Times is published. The upper-class, conservative newspaper automatically made Tony Anthony! I. E. They refused to abbreviate his first name. This conveys the idea that despite what Harrison wanted and tried to achieve, he had no choice; the established class structure dictated to him and to his art. In conclusion, much of Harridans poetry expresses his ambivalent feelings about how education affected his life. There is no doubt that his middle class education helped him become the poet he is, yet the question remains whether that is because it improved his work or because it gave him access into the world associated with it regardless, it was a choice he had to make. Old Man And The Sea In the book, The Old Man and the Sea, Ernest Hemingway tells a story of an old fisherman. The old man, named Santiago, had gone for eighty-four days without catching a fish. Santiago feels that the following day would be a good day because eighty-five is his lucky number. The following day he gets up before dawn and sets out for a day of fishing. He had set one bait at forty fathoms, the second at seventy-five fathoms, and the third and forth were at one hundred and one hundred and twenty-five fathoms. While Santiago is fishing he sees a bird trying to get a flying fish that was being chased by tuna. The old man tries to put his boat over the school of tuna in hope of getting a catch. Suddenly something hooked itself on the bait that was set at one hundred and twenty-five fathoms. The old man had caught a huge marlin that was now pulling him out to sea. The fish continued to pull the old man out to sea for about 3 days. The old man survived by putting one of his other lines out so that he could catch fish and eat them in order to keep his strength. On the third day he finally caught the fish. He had pulled the fish in slowly and then threw his harpoon at the fish's heart killing it instantly. The old man tied the fish to the side of his skiff and began to sail home. As he was sailing a shark took a large bite out of the fish he had caught. The old man harpooned the shark in his brain, and as the shark rolled off of the fish it took the old man's harpoon with it. The old man knew that there would be other sharks that would follow the scent of the fish's blood. He tied his knife to the butt of one of his oars. Two more sharks came and the old man killed them both. The second shark broke the blade as it rolled off the fish. Desperate, the old man waited for the other sharks. All he had left was a club, and he was going to use it. More sharks came, but this time in a pack. The old man desperately fought off the shark with his club, but the club was grabbed from his hands. He then ripped part of his boat off and attempted to fend off the sharks. In the end the sharks had eaten the fish down to the bone leaving the old man nothing. The old man noticed that his skiff sailed faster without the huge fish tied on to the side of his boat. When the old man got home he took all his belongings up to his shack where he rested. The old man dreamed about lions, and he was happy. The first, and main character in the book The Old Man and the Sea is in fact the old man, Santiago. The old man, Santiago, is a tough, persevering man with fishing in his blood. Santiago just wants to fish because that is what he lives to do. The old man constantly asks himself, "What would the great DiMaggio do in a situation like this?" This leads us to say that Santiago looks up to this base ball player whom he addresses as "The Great DiMaggio" constantly. I like the old man because he was a strong old man, and he was confident too. Even through the toughest tasks Santiago perseveres. The old man improvises and never gives up, just like when his fish was attacked by sharks. "But there was nothing to be done now. 'Yes there is,' he said aloud. 'I can lash my knife to the butt of one of the oars." Even in his darkest hours he kept on striving to protect his fish. He killed many sharks and when he ran out of weapons he continued to fight. "But the shark jerked backwards as he rolled and the knife blade snapped. ...reached under the stern for the club." The old man refused to give up. Santiago would fight the sharks until he died. "Fight them,' he said. 'I'll fight them until I die'" The other main character featured in this story was the boy, whose name is Manolin. The History of Gillette and Schick Razors Men have been slaves to their facial hairà pretty much since they first walked upright. A couple of inventors have made the process of trimming it or getting rid of it entirelyà easier over the years and their razors and shavers are still widely used today. Gilletteà Razors Enter the Market Patent No. 775,134 was granted to King C. Gillette for a ââ¬Å"safety razorâ⬠on November 15, 1904. Gillette was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin in 1855 and became a traveling salesman to support himself after his familyââ¬â¢s home was destroyed in the Chicago Fire of 1871. His work led him to William Painter, the inventor of the disposable Crown Cork bottle cap. Painter told Gillette that a successful invention was one that was purchased over and over again by satisfied customers. Gillette took this advice to heart. After several years of considering and rejecting a number of possible inventions, Gillette suddenly had a brilliant idea while shaving one morning. An entirely new razor flashed in his mind- one with a safe, inexpensive and disposable blade. American men would no longer have to regularly send their razors out for sharpening. They could toss out their old blades and reapply new ones. Gilletteââ¬â¢s invention would also fit neatly in the hand, minimizing cuts and nicks. It was a stroke of genius, but it took another six years for Gilletteââ¬â¢s idea to come toà fruition. Technical experts told Gillette that it was impossible to produce steel that was hard enough, thin enough and inexpensive enough for the commercial development of a disposable razor blade. That was until MIT graduate William Nickerson agreed to try his hand at it in 1901, and two years later, he had succeeded. Production of the Gillette safety razor and blade began when the Gillette Safety Razor Company started their operations in South Boston. Over time, sales grew steadily. The U.S. government issued Gillette safety razors to the entire armed forces during World War I and over three million razors and 32 million blades were put into military hands. By the end of the war, an entire nation was converted to the Gilletteà safety razor. In the 1970s, Gillette began sponsoring international sporting eventsà such as the Gillette Cricket Cup, the FIFA World Cup, and Formula One racing. Schickà Razorsà It was an inventive U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel named Jacob Schick who first conceived of the electric razor that initially bore his name. Colonel Schick patented the first such razor on November 1928 after deciding that a dry shave was the way to go. So the Magazine Repeating Razor Company was born. Schick subsequently sold his interest in the company to American Chain and Cable, which continued to sell the razor until 1945. In 1935, ACC introduced the Schick Injector Razor, an idea in which Schick held the patent.à The Eversharp Company ultimately bought the rights to the razor in 1946. The Magazine Repeating Razor Company would become the Schick Safety Razor Company and use the same razor concept to launch a similar product for women in 1947. Teflon-coated stainless steel blades were later introduced in 1963 for a smoother shave. As part of the arrangement, Eversharp slid its own name onto the product, sometimes in conjunction with the Schick logo.

Much research has been carried out in two centuries towards understanding Parkinsonââ¬â¢s disease but no definite cure could be attained so far. PD has emerged as the second most prevalent neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimerââ¬â¢s disease (AD). Diagnosis of Parkinsonââ¬â¢s disease is difficult in early stages of the disease. Estimates reveal that only 75% of the clinically diagnosed cases are confirmed at autopsy (Gelb, 1999). Although the disease is non fatal but the linked complications culminate into life threatening consequences especially in the later stages of the disease (Morgante, 2000). The neuropathological studies disclose characteristics of PD and its c onnection with neuronal degeneration in substantia nigra pars compacta (SNpc), loss of dopaminergic neuron results in imbalance between dopamine and acetylcholine. As less amount of dopamine is secreted, there is overtone of cholinergic activity in basal ganglia, responsible for various clinical features of Parkinsonââ¬â¢s disease. ... Lewy bodies are associated with neurological conditions, they enclose protein components of the ubiquitin proteosome system (UPS), hsp, neurofilaments, ?-synuclein and synphilin-1 (Olanow, 2004). Cardinal features of Parkinsonââ¬â¢s disease is associated with motor symptoms encompassing resting tremor, rigidity, bradykinesia/ akinesia, shakiness in posture, gait and posture disturbances may be common including shuffling of the feet, decreased arm swing and stooped forward- flexed posture, pin rolling movements of thumb, drooling of saliva from mouth, expression less face or masked face, micrographia, impaired agility (Nussbaum, 1997). The non motor symptoms occur due to loss of non-dopaminergic pathway resulting in the distress in the patient and hence impairing life (Hely, 2005). Mood alteration is common in PDs, including depression (Lieberman, 2006), anxiety, cognitive disturbance, impaired attention, prioritizing, interpreting social cues, and subjective awareness, dementia, h allucination, delusion, short term memory loss, enhanced sexual activity and psychosis (Frank, 2005; Levin, 2005). Sleep disturbances, disproportionate daytime sleepiness with nighttime sleeplessness, distressed REM sleep (Freedom, 2007). Disturbed visual sensations, spatial analysis and color differentiation, PD cases are unaware of their body position (Adler, 2005). Nocturia, orthostatic hypotension, distorted weight (Martignoni, 1995). Risk Factors for Parkinsonââ¬â¢s disease encompass advancing age, environmental predisposition, and genetic factors in the select genes.
